# Brunswick County Highway Reopens After Improvements

**Down Ballot Staff Reports** 

**FUNSTON -** A portion of River Road (N.C. 133) in [Brunswick County](https://www.ncdot.gov/news/press-releases/Pages/2025/2025-09-03-brunswick-county-highway-reopens.aspx?ref=down-ballot.info) will reopen to traffic on schedule after being closed for several months for improvements.

The [road near Funston Road](https://drivenc.gov/?type=incident&id=717143&ref=down-ballot.info) is scheduled to open on Friday, Sept. 5\. It has been closed since mid-December. 

  
While it was closed, N.C. Department of Transportation contract crews replaced a drainage pipe with a larger aluminum one. Multiple other pipes were also replaced with a bridge and culvert nearly 400 feet long to make the road and surrounding area more resilient during storms.
