UPDATE: Boil water advisory that started Thursday in York County is lifted

UPDATE: According to York County, water test results are clear and the advisory is lifted for all customers.

On Thursday afternoon the presence of E.Coli bacteria was detected in a water sample taken from the water system in western York County.

York County Water routinely takes 30 water samples for testing each month as required by state law. Only one of those 30 samples came back positive for E.Coli.

According to a news release posted on the county's website, the county is issuing a boil water advisory as a precautionary measure.

The area in white on this map is the western York County service area. After zooming in, residents can find their street. If a blue line runs along the street, the customer is under the boil water advisory.

Following guidelines from the S.C. Department of Environmental Services, the county will take additional samples for testing on Friday and Saturday.

The boil water advisory will likely remain in place until Monday.

Currently, York County is investigating the reason the sample yielded a positive result.
