Firefighters continue to battle Polk County fires in western NC
South Carolina secures federal help for Upstate blazes

Firefighters continue to contain three wildfires in North Carolina's Polk County, which borders South Carolina.
According to a news release from the North Carolina Forest Service, there are currently 249 personnel from North Carolina and other states are working to contain the fires.
The Black Cove fire was last measured at 2,076 acres and is on state and private land north of Saluda. The fire is not contained and the evacuations ordered include:
- Green River Cove Road addresses from 1091 to 1528
- Lady Slipper Trail
- Big Hungry Road
- Spurgeon Cove Lane
- English Heifer Cove Road
- Deer Trail
- Scarlets Mountain Road
The Deep Woods fire is near Columbus and was last measured at 2,545 acres and evacuations were ordered for:
- 5079-7265 Holbert Cove Road
- Fox Paw Lane
According to a news release from the South Carolina governor's office, the Federal Emergency Management Agency approved the Palmetto State for a grant to support its effort in containing the fires in Pickens and Greenville counties. The Persimmon Ridge fire was reported on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
