N.C. Board of Education to meet in Waynesville

Proposed changes to rules regarding athletics is on the agenda for the Thursday, May 1 meeting

The North Carolina Board of Education will meet in Waynesville at the Haywood County Schools district office, 161 Bryson Street for a two-day work session followed by its regular meeting on the third.

The first work session is on Tuesday April 29 and the meeting will be held on Thursday, May 1.

Items on the agenda include revisions to policies regarding interscholastic athletics. If approved, the policies would likely be effective July 1, 2025.

The Homeless and Foster Student Transportation Grant is for students that have extraordinary transportation costs. The General Assembly allocated $3 million for this grant. The state board of education is charged with approving the grant recipients and funding amounts. The item is on the agenda for action on first reading.
