N.C. DEQ to hold public hearing on Weatherization Assistance Program Thursday, April 17

The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality's state energy office will be holding a public hearing Thursday, April 17 at 1 p.m. about the agency's Weatherization Assistance Program.
Citizens can attend the public hearing in person if they are in the Raleigh area or online.
According to a news release, the public comment period ends on Monday, April 21.
The Weatherization Assistance Program helps low-income residents save energy and reduce their utility bills.

The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality administers the Weatherization Assistance Program with annual funding from the federal government.
In 2021, over $22.6 million in federal grants allowed more than 1,100 homes to be weatherized and more than 900 heating, ventilation, and air conditioning units in homes to be repaired or replaced.


North Carolina's Department of Environmental Quality implements the annual Weatherization Assistance Program through a network of local providers with expertise in energy conservation. These subgrantees provide energy conservation services using their own trained crews or by subcontracting work to qualified contractors.
On December 30, 2024, the U.S. Department of Energy released its funding allocations for the upcoming fiscal year and the federal agency is expected to send $6,196,024 for the purpose of enhancing energy efficiency in the homes of low-income families.
