Boil water advisory still in effect

Down Ballot Staff Reports

Update 9/1/2025 3:15 PM

York County expects repairs to be completed by 6 p.m. and full water pressure by 7 p.m.

Update: 8/31/2025 11:26:51 PM

Though water service was restored today, additional repairs are needed. To make those final repairs water will be shut off tomorrow (Monday) in the affected areas of Fort Mill & Tega Cay between 7am and 5pm.

The boil water advisory remains in effect until further notice for customers who experienced low water pressure or no water pressure.

Update: 8/31/2025 4:10:20 PM

Repairs are now complete to the water line in Fort Mill. The system is being flushed and full service should be restored shortly. There is still a boil water advisory in place for anyone who had low water pressure or no water pressure. The advisory will be lifted once water samples are tested with satisfactory results. Please either boil water before consuming or use bottled water.

Original notice:

York County is issuing a boil water advisory until further notice following a water main break in Fort Mill last night. The break happened near Hwy 21 and Coltharp Road. Crews have been out overnight isolating the leak and are now digging out the area to make repairs.

The exact cause hasn't been determined at this time.

Repairs are expected to be completed today.

Pressure in the line has been shut off to make these repairs. As a result, once water service is restored, we're advising that water should be boiled until further notice (for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth). An update will be shared when any new information is available.

The boil water advisory in effect only applies to customers who either lost water service completely or experienced low water pressure. If you never experienced issues, you do not have to boil water before drinking. The boil water notice will only be lifted once water samples are tested and approved.
